[un]seen is a community-centered project and installation that consists of a collection of portraits and statements from underrepresented members of the LGBTQ community. each participant answered the question, “what do you wish people understood about the experience of being [your identity]?”

the installation of [un]seen consisted of seven custom-built hinged frames that allowed viewers to physically interact with them. the rest of the statements are featured on the project’s instagram account, @unseen_installation, and were compiled into a video that played on loop in the gallery.

additional resources are also offered in the form of handheld paper booklets that were available for viewers in the gallery to take with them. a full collection of resources is housed on the project’s instagram page, and is accessible via a QR code on the back of the paper booklets.

[un]seen was admitted to Bowling Green State University’s 2022 BFA Exhibition, was nominated for the Monnier Family Foundation Outstanding Artist Award, and received the Mayeux Award from the BGSU Honors College.
